Alcohol

In our society, alcohol use is common, and a social drink on occasion is little cause for concern. However, when alcohol use becomes excessive, and interferes with family, school or job performance, finances or health, a person may be suffering from alcoholism. This is a progressive disease. If untreated, it can lead to physical and mental problems, and even death. Admitting there may be a problem is the first step. Then, seeking the help of professional, the individual, family and friends, can begin the process of recovery. If you suspect you have a problem, or someone you know appears to be suffering from substance abuse, call for help.

Has Your Friend Had Too Much To Drink? Be Aware!

Watch for these signs to help keep your friends safe:

  • If your friend drinks excessively ( 4-5 drinks in one sitting)
  • He or she drinks after using medications or other drugs
  • Your friend vomits when passed out
  • If he or she cannot stand up without help
  • If your friend won’t wake up
  • If you observe that your friend has slow breathing or irregular pulse
  • If you see clammy skin

If any of these pertain to your friend:

  • DO NOT leave them alone
  • Call 911, you aren’t getting them in trouble, you are saving their life
  • Place he/she on their side to allow vomit out, and reduce risk of choking
  • Explain to someone (EMT, doctor, police, parent) everything you know
  • Be honest, you are helping to save his/her life
  • DO NOT give them coffee or put them in a cold shower to “wake them up”
  • DO NOT let them engage in physical activities
  • DO NOT let your friend drive drunk

Keep An Eye On Your Drink!
Date rape drugs may seem like they only happen in movies but they are for real.

Rohypnol ( “date rape drug” ) has sedative effects that make victims, often females, easy targets for rape. Rohypnol is a colorless, odorless and tasteless drug that is undectable once dissolved into a victim’s drink. Before dissolved, Rohypnol is a white tablet that is scored on one side and may say “ROCHE”. Rohypnol causes amnesia, dizziness, impaired speech, muscle relaxation and loss of consciousness.

To avoid being a victim of DATE RAPE DRUGS…. never accept drinks from someone you don’t know. If you do know them, make sure…do not be scared to second guess anything!! If you are going to accept a drink from someone you do not know, make sure it is in an unopened container. Keep an eye on your drink at all times, never leave it unattended! Punch Bowls are a No-no!! If you have any reason to believe that you have been a victim, contact authorities as soon as possible. Learn more about date rape drugs…
